FAQs
These are a selection of the most common questions that we are asked:

Q: How easy is it to change accountant and why should I change?

A: If your existing accountant offers you an excellent pro-active service for a fair price then stick with them. However, different accountants will save you different amounts of tax and provide different levels of service and business advice. If your present accountant doesn’t offer the type of services you want and that we offer, then changing over to us is a very easy process.

Q: You seem to offer a lot. Are your fees expensive?

A: No! We offer guaranteed fixed fees linked to the value of what we provide. Please see our fees pages for the typical fees to expect depending on your type of business, size and what services you require. We never undertake work without agreeing the fee in advance so you always know where you stand.

Q: I’ve just had my accounts done and don’t need an accountant until next year, so is there any need to contact you now?

A: We can’t over emphasise the importance of tax planning at an early stage rather than reactive advice. The same applies to all areas of advice and we are all about helping you change the future, not just reporting what has already happened.

Q: Will you visit us for an initial consultation?

A: Yes. It often helps to see your business, books and records etc at first hand and we are always happy to invest our time without charge to show you what we can do and explain our services. Of course, if prefer to visit us, that’s fine too. You can visit us at one of our offices in Alloa, Stirling or Falkirk. We can also deal remotely via email or Skype.

Q: When and how soon can you come to see us?

A: When’s good for you? Let us know and we’ll do our utmost to help. We can meet in the evenings or weekends if that suits you better.

Q: You seem to be offering so much that I’m just not used to from my present accountant. How do I know you will deliver?

A: All we can say is that as accountants, you’d expect us to be a bit analytical, which is true. As such we don’t offer something which we don’t believe we can deliver.

Q: Should I set up as a sole trader or as a limited company?

A: In rough terms running your business as a sole trader is more straight forward, easier to set up and cheaper but has the disadvantages of risking your personal assets and can be less tax efficient. Each case differs and we would recommend that we have a chat to see the option that is best for you and your business.

Q: Am I likely to get a tax enquiry?

A: No-one can say when an enquiry will happen but if you are late filing your returns, pay late or are in a cash based business then the chances are you will be selected sooner than later. We offer Tax Investigation insurance via Taxwise so that our costs from an enquiry are covered.

Q: Can you show me how to maintain my accounting records?

A: Yes we would be happy to devise an accounting system that suits your business needs. This may be a simple excel spreadsheet or a more formalised accounting package such as Xero (online accounting software) or SAGE.
